Gates, Doors and Thresholds

A paper-cut art
Gates of Jerusalem

In this program, participants are invited to investigate the symbol of doors and gates in Jewish thought in general, and in Jerusalem specifically. Gates are symbols of transformation and hope, of the transition between wondrous worlds. During the program we explore the architecture and various visual representations of gates and doors, and a modern midrash on the Gates of Jerusalem. After a facilitated text study, participants have the opportunity to create their own visual representations of the gates in their lives.

Kol HaOt imparts Jewish values, texts and history through a creative synthesis of the visual and performing arts.

We believe that harnessing the arts, via our interactive programs, is a necessity, not a luxury, and is an effective model for Jewish education, identity and community.
