What Shall Be After

An Exhibit of Kohelet Inspired By Memorialized Handwriting

"For this is the whole of man," concludes the Book of Ecclesiastes. But what is "this"? What is the essence of a person? One possible answer to these questions came from the Ot.Haim project, which created fonts from the handwriting of those who fell on October 7th and since then. A person’s
handwriting is a unique mark that reflects their personality, and by designing a font and releasing it, available to anyone, that person remains with us a little longer.

The works in this exhibition bring these letters into the physical world. The use of the letters shows that indeed there is something beyond, that there is value to the person who toils under the sun. In Chapter 3 of Ecclesiastes, there is a familiar poem of contrasts, opposites which served as the inspiration for the posters in the exhibit. The order, the clarity, and the simple structure can offer us hope right now: for the return of the hostages, for the healing of the wounded, for the return home of all Northern and Southern residents, and for the safety of our soldiers. The ancient text reminds us that there is a time for everything. The days of silence, distance, and fighting will pass, and a time of embrace, laughter, dancing, building, and peace will undoubtedly come.

The Posters

The 14 posters, each by a different designer, created for the exhibit can be found below and on the rest of this page. The posters differ in their visual style, in their use of text, and in the way they reference the story that the handwriting represents.
